![]() ![]() There are a lot of changes coming to the Rome: Total War remaster. ![]() What better excuse than the 20th year of Total War to revisit a grand master? The original release of Rome marks a special time for us as our first major break-out title it's amazing to get the opportunity to Remaster it with our friends at Feral. The remastered edition of the classic Total War: Rome comes out this week. Rob Bartholomew, Chief Product Officer at Creative Assembly, had this to say: That includes review of environments, battlefields. Complete Original Content: Total War: ROME REMASTERED includes the Barbarian Invasion and Alexander expansions in glorious new detail, and players will also gain access to the original Rome: Total War Collection (only playable on Windows). Despite that, Total War: Rome Remastered comes with interesting news: Enhanced images with full 4K images.Cross-platform Multiplayer: Players can enjoy cross-platform PVP multiplayer between Windows, macOS and Linux, a first for the Total War franchise.Improved Help Systems: A swathe of improved support has been added, including a redesigned tutorial, a new in-game Wiki, expansive advice and tooltips, and improved accessibility for colour blind players.Existing mechanics have also been improved, including an overhauled diplomacy system, wider camera zoom levels throughout the game, and camera rotation on the campaign map. Modernised Features: Players can exercise more control than ever with new features such as a tactical map during battles, plus heat maps and icon overlays in campaign mode.New Gameplay Content: Wage war across new fronts with 16 previously unplayable factions to play on top of the original 22, and send the new Merchant agents on missions to establish lucrative trade networks across the map, buy out rival Merchants, and assert your empire’s economic power.Improved Visuals: Total War: ROME REMASTERED ushers the classic strategy title into the modern gaming era with full 4K visuals, native support for ultra-high-definition resolution and overhauled environment, battlefield, and character models.Not only that, it's got new features that we all get to play through. Actually, it's been remade and soon to be released by Feral Interactive (Bioshock 2 remastered, assisted A Total War Saga: Troy DLC). Correction: this post originally confused Feral Interactive with their fellow portpeeps Aspyr.So, Total War: Rome. The original Rome: Total War Collection has been removed from sale on Steam, though buying Remastered you will a free copy of it thrown in too - so it's not fully erased from history. Oh, be sure to download the Enhanced Graphics Pack for the hottest new looks. An FAQ explains, "Unfortunately, we cannot track users who own the CD version in order to offer the discount." Doesn't explain why the discount is on a timer. They are offering a 50% discount for folks who own the original, but only until 4pm Pacific on May 31st - and only if you have it on Steam. Total War: Rome Remastered is out now for Windows, Mac, and Linux on Steam at £25/€30/$30. That's nobody's fault but old daddy time's, but alas, it is the case." But as I've already said, despite the remarkably good job Feral have done here, the end result is still drab when compared against any of the Total Wars from the last few years. "I suppose if you really love Romans and you really love Total War, but you didn't get along with TW: Rome 2, this is probably the ideal game for you. But that doesn't change the fact that it's still Rome: Total War at heart.
